Overcurrent

A condition that exists on an electrical circuit when the normal load current (the rated value) is exceeded. Overcurrents take on two separate characteristics - short circuits and overloads. A circuit or appliance should be protected by a Circuit Breaker or fuse so than any overcurrent in the circuit is short lived.
