Separated Extra Low Voltage (SELV)

A circuit that operates at less than 50 V (AC) or 120 V ripple-free DC via a step down transformer from the mains. SELV should be safely separated from other circuits that carry higher voltages and isolated from earth (ground) and from the protective earth conductors of other circuits. A typical example for a SELV circuit is a Class II battery charger.
